Surplus and Contingency Fund

At the August 2017 Extraordinary General Meeting and the November 2017 Annual General Meeting, registrants raised questions regarding the financial statements of the College. The College values transparency and openness, and in that spirit this information is provided.

The CTCMA has a responsibility to meet all the financial and legal requirements set out under the provincial Health Professions Act.  Part of that responsibility is ensuring that the College is able to meet all of its legal obligations, which could include severance pay, lease commitments and ongoing contracts. Currently, the CTCMA has a contingency fund equal to approximately one year of operating costs to cover those expenses.  This amount has been vetted by external auditors, who have confirmed it is in line with other not-for-profits.  This contingency fund makes up the vast majority of the CTCMA’s surplus funds.

The College takes its fiduciary duties seriously. If you would like more information, detailed financial records, presented by external auditors, can be found on the website here.
